It was from this house that James Dean left on the morning of September 30th 1955 to drive to Salinas. Dean was driving west on U.S. Highway 466 (later California State Route 46) near Cholame, California when a car driven from the opposite direction by 23-year-old Donald Turnupseed attempted to take the fork onto California State Route 41 and crossed into Dean’s lane without seeing him. The two cars hit almost head on. Dean was taken to Paso Robles War Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 5:59PM at the age of 24. The Village At Sherman Oaks Map: The Village at Sherman Oaks is a wonderful place to start a day of shopping and dining. The Village at Sherman Oaks is home to an array of small boutiques and plazas, specialty shops and service providers. There is the “Three Dog Bakery” where I buy my dogs birthdays biscuits, “Cafe Unforgettable Cakes” where I buy my birthday biscuits, ANAJAK THAI which, in my opinion, is the best Thai food in The Valley. On a sunny Sherman Oaks day it is a nice stroll from Cedros Avenue to Van Nuys Blvd. Stop at The “PINEAPPLE HILL SALOON” and chat it up at the bar and order a veggie burger (my fave).
