James Dean House On Sutton Ave. Sherman Oaks – James Dean’s last home was on Sutton Street in Sherman Oaks. It was from this house that James Dean left on the morning of September 30th 1955 to drive to Salinas. Dean was driving west on U.S. Highway 466 (later California State Route 46) near Cholame, California when a car driven from the opposite direction by 23-year-old Donald Turnupseed attempted to take the fork onto California State Route 41 and crossed into Dean’s lane without seeing him. The two cars hit almost head on. Dean was taken to Paso Robles War Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 5:59PM at the age of 24. The Village At Sherman Oaks Map: The Village at Sherman Oaks is a wonderful place to start a day of shopping and dining. The Village at Sherman Oaks is home to an array of small boutiques and plazas, specialty shops and service providers. There is the “Three Dog Bakery” where I buy my dogs birthdays biscuits, “Cafe Unforgettable Cakes” where I buy my birthday biscuits, ANAJAK THAI which, in my opinion, is the best Thai food in The Valley. On a sunny Sherman Oaks day it is a nice stroll from Cedros Avenue to Van Nuys Blvd. Stop at The “PINEAPPLE HILL SALOON” and chat it up at the bar and order a veggie burger (my fave).
Fashion Square Area Of Sherman Oaks Map: The Sherman Oaks Fashion Square (Now the Westfield Fashion Square) is home to over120 stores and boutiques. When a Realtor® says that she has a new listing in “Fashion Square” she does not mean it is in the mall. We Sherman Oaks Realtors® have pet names for our favorite areas. The post office doesn’t recognize the names but Realtors® and the people that live there do. The Fashion Square area of Sherman Oaks is just north of the actual mall and is bordered by Riverside Drive, Magnolia Blvd, Hazeltine Ave and Woodman Ave.
The homes in The Sherman Oaks Fashion Square area are mostly traditional style homes built in the late 1940s to early 1950s. Prices range from $560,000to $1,000,000 with the average 1700 square foot home selling for about $760,000.
Hidden Woods is another one of those areas in Sherman Oaks that the post office doesn’t know about but Realtors® and property owners like to brag about. Hidden Woods in Sherman Oaks is chalked full of homes built by the William Mellenthin Company in the early 1950s (characterized by the birdhouse over the garage).
